This is a major concept to understand. You cannot sculpt the lower abs by doing "the right" exercises. Trying to get a specific area of your body to look better by trying to work the muscle underneath the fat is known as "spot reduction", and it does not work.


Instead of trying to lose fat by doing lots of lower abs exercises, you need to concentrate more so on lose total body fat. When you gain body fat, you gain it all over your body. The same is true for when you lose body fat as well.


If you want to lose fat, then you need to work your entire body! The more muscle you work, the more calories you will burn. This is the reason that total body strength training 2-3 times per week is so effective for reducing body fat. Once you have lost enough body fat, you will start to see the lower abs as well as your entire midsection look slimmer.


Lower Abs Secret #2: You need to eat the right foods at the right time.


Remember that we are concentrating here on losing body fat and not just doing exercises for the lower abs. Once you have extremely low body fat, you can then worry about doing the right exercises to induce muscle tone in that area.


In order to lose body fat, nutrition is absolutely crucial!


When I say you need to eat the right foods at the right time, that means you should eat 4-6 small meals per day that consists of the right portions of protein, complex carbs, and good fats.


By spacing your meals out like this, you will reduce the total number of calories you consume as well as help to keep you blood sugar where it needs to be.


The biggest enemy with diet that will sabotage your efforts to lose body fat and help your lower abs is by eating high glycemic carbs. These are carbs that are simple sugars when broken down in the digestive system such as white bread, white rice and other junk food.


These bad carbs will make your blood sugar get very high, and your body will respond by storing more of it as fat.
